This event took place on 22nd March in the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuala Lumpur.
Me and 3 of my other colleagues whom are all Bridges- IPF full supporter attended this final dialogue session for the event Bridges- Dialogue Towards A Culture of Peace.
Here are some introduction to the speaker.
My colleagues...
Not some antique pic...but a newspaper cut out. (23 April 09, Sin Chiew Daily)
Few nice quotes were also given by Rev. Jesse Jackson that can be pondered by all of us.
"See things thru doors not keyholes"
"Let's tear down wall between us and let's build bridges".
His speech was strong and powerful and you can really feel like Martin Luther King or Barack Obama speak in front of your own eyes. His speech was indeed brilliant and made all audience realise even more the importance of peace and equality. A term by Dr Martin Luther King- Shared Destiny. Here's a snippets of what he said,
Sorry if you need to tilt your head to watch this, but believe me...it's worth it.
I pose a during the Q&A... rather peculiar question...to most maybe...as the title of the speech was "Building a culture of peace and development in a globalized world". Amidst a crowd of professionals and "the internationals and globals"...I asked this.
"There's a quote that says...equality is the key to peace. As you have said in your speech a moment ago that as long as the rule and law was fair, no matter the winner or the loser will be satisfied.( He used the analogy of transparent and fair rules in the Beijing Olympic in the competition in a globalized world). And because of that, it is a common cause that has open opportunity to all that we can stand united. Now, for other examples, as the US citizens stand united under Barack Obama, we Malaysian want to stand united under the 1Malaysia concept. Hence, I would like to ask in your professional opinion that how could we as the younger generation of Malaysia could turn that dream into a reality?"
This question may seem out of the "globalized" scope as it concerns locally more. However, he did answer promptly on equality and from some contrasting comments from various quarters, this question indeed did cause a small fireworks amongst the local professionals. I should have instead restructure the question to, "What common cause that we as the younger generation could stand together in this globalized world in support of world peace and unity?" Then it'll suite the scope better. Anyhow, my apologies to all. Yet, the feeling was extraordinary as you stand in fronts of such high ranking crowd and take off some of their precious time and make them listen to what ever we say(regardless it's sth or crap). It was really an experienced.
The event Bridges- Dialogue Towards A Culture of Peace in Malaysia- Thailand has come to an end. The next series would be held in Cambodia. So, it was really a lifetime opportunity to attend these event and I would like to express my deepest gratitude and heartiest congratulation to Mr. Uwe Morawetz for the successful dialogue series.
